Fax Server

Internet technology is now so developed that it is not difficult to perform many of the normal functions of a daily life over the Internet. Email has largely taken over the function of “snail mail,” as instantly delivering a message is preferable to mail taking time through the postal system. Technology has developed so that “Voice-Over-Internet” technology allows one to have phone calls through the Internet. Faxing is also a function that one can begin to perform over the Internet. This shouldn’t be surprising, considering that sending emails with attachments is very similar to faxing. However, you have to stop and consider that a traditional fax and email works in two different languages. Therefore, if you want to send a document from a computer to a fax machine, or vice versa, you will need the use of a fax server .

A fax server is typically a computer that has the potential to translate the necessary information from the computer language to the fax machine language, or the other way around. Information travels differently through a phone line than it does over cable, wireless, or high speed Internet and each of these machines will read that information in different ways. Therefore, when using a fax server, you are going to need a fax capable modem.

If you are planning on faxing by computer, the fax capable modem will be a model which is not only hooked up to your traditional Internet source, but will be attached to a traditional phone line as well. When two typical fax machines communicate, they are doing so through a phone line. Their language will transmit the necessary information, and the documents that you are faxing will begin to print out.

Using faxing online is not that much different, except for the translation which needs to take place. Without the fax capable modem, the fax machine would not understand what the computer is trying to do. Therefore, when using fax over IP, the fax capable modem simply sends the necessary documents from the computer through a phone line to the desired fax machine. If someone is planning on sending a fax to the computer, the fax capable modem will receive that information and successfully translate it back into the appropriate computer language.

Internet faxing is becoming more and more common. While fax machines are slowly fading out to simply sending information by email, some businesses and organizations will still make use of these fax machines. Therefore, in order to be competitive with other businesses which can still accept faxes from important clients and associates, some form of faxing should be needed. Instead of purchasing a fax machine, however, and paying for regular faxing, email faxing may be a good option. Even if you do not purchase a fax capable modem yourself, you can find a fax server to help you fulfill all of these requirements.

There are a number of fax server organizations on the Internet which can help you with faxing by computer. These organizations have set up their own fax servers and by subscribing to these businesses, you will easily be able to use faxing online without having to worry about the trouble of a fax machine or a fax capable modem. These fax servers will use a service much like email faxing. By going to the server and uploading the message you need to transmit, much like uploading an attachment to an email, it will not be difficult to fax over IP connections.

When you join one of these servers, you will typically be given your own special faxing number. As long as you pay the monthly dues, which will give you the ability to fax as much as you need to, your organization will be given its own separate faxing number where you can send documents from and receive them from outside sources. This can be a great tool to anyone who is trying to upgrade their company from the fax machines which are becoming outdated but still need to stay in touch with those who have not upgraded. Using faxing online becomes a very easy solution to this problem.

You may not even need to use faxing online that often. In this case, there are a number of free faxing services online which allow you to send documents as you need to. This can save you the trouble of needing to find a fax machine and pay the price of sending a page. This can be a great compliment to a typical use of email, for faxing by computer can be the perfect way to communicate to those without Internet access when they may need certain information the most. Faxing by computer is quickly becoming one of the premiere ways to communicate and should be considered by anyone who may need to send a fax at some point.
